Ethnobotanical Survey of Plants Used as Biopesticides by Indigenous People of Plateau State, Nigeria

The quest for sustainable health, environmental protection, and the conservation of beneficial organisms makes use biopesticides a desirable option. This research aimed to identify botanicals used in management farm household pests Plateau State, Nigeria. A cross sectional study was carried out using semi-structured questionnaires on-the-spot, face-to-face interviews. main issues captured include pests, plants manage pest, parts used, cultivation status, availability, effects on indigenous formulation methods, modes application. quantitative data were analyzed Frequency Citation (FC), Relative RFC (%), Use Value (UV). total 45 plant species belonging 42 genera, 20 orders, 30 families found be useful 15 different pests. FC, UV values identified most popularly as Mesosphaerum suaveolens (L.) Kuntze, Gymnanthemum amygdalinum (Delile) Sch.Bip., Azadirachta indica A. Juss, Canarium schweinfurthii Engl., Euphorbiaunispina N.E.Br., Erythrophloem africanum (Benth.) Harms. that showed broad uses by ethnic groups Juss (7 uses), Harms, Khaya senegalensis (Desr.) Juss., Sch.Bip. perception respondents indicated are available, affordable, effective, eco-friendly, safe. survey provides pathway stable biopesticides.
